Fatigue in people with primary biliary cholangitis: a position paper from the European Reference Network for Rare Liver Diseases

A systematic review by ERN RARE-LIVER outlines current evidence and clinical recommendations for managing fatigue in PBC patients.

A new ERN RARE-LIVER position paper on fatigue in PBC has been published, based on a systematic literature review addressing six key questions. The paper reports that fatigue affects 63.4% of people with PBC and is one of the symptoms with the greatest impact on quality of life, despite not correlating with liver disease severity or biochemical response to UDCA. Structured physical activity remains the only intervention with consistent benefit, within a multidimensional management strategy. The authors present a clinical algorithm for fatigue management and highlight the need for high-quality studies.
