About the Working Group

The Hepatitis Delta Virus (HDV) Working Group brings together clinicians, researchers, nurses and other healthcare professionals with expertise in hepatitis D and hepatitis B/HDV co-infection.

Hepatitis D is a rare but severe liver disease caused by the hepatitis D virus. HDV can only infect people who also have hepatitis B virus infection. It can lead to more aggressive liver disease than hepatitis B alone, with an increased risk of cirrhosis, liver decompensation, liver cancer and, in some cases, acute liver failure.

The Working Group aims to improve HDV diagnosis, testing, treatment, monitoring, patient information, education, pathway development and collaboration across ERN RARE-LIVER centres.

Get Involved

Clinicians, researchers, nurses, patient representatives and patient organisations interested in hepatitis D are welcome to become involved in the HDV Working Group.

The group works on testing, diagnosis, treatment, patient information, pathway development, survey work and education to improve care for people living with hepatitis D.
