Particular rare liver disease expertise of the centre
The centre has mainly clinical expertise in tertiary care of patients (adult and paediatric) with rare liver disease. Several members of the local team did a fellowship or worked in centres that are member of the ERN, participated in research related to PSVD and PSC and collaborated on the development of the ERN RARE-LIVER survey “Counselling Young Adults With Liver Disease On Alcohol Use”.

Centre information
UZ Brussel (University Hospital Brussels) is a tertiary, university hospital in Belgium. It is attached to the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Free University of Brussels (VUB) on the Brussels Health Campus in Jette. With 721 hospital beds, it accounts for more than 30,000 admissions of patients each year from Belgium and abroad, more than 360,000 consultations (emergencies not included) and more than 70,000 patients at the emergency care. As a university hospital, it also has a teaching mission and conducts scientific research.
The Gastroenterology-Hepatology department delivers in-and out-patient care for acute and chronic liver diseases and participates in academic teaching and clinical/fundamental research projects. For the latter we collaborate mainly with the Liver Cell Biology Lab (LIVR at the VUB. The department is a member of the Flemish Network for rare liver diseases (VNZZ).
