Centre information
The University Medical Center (UKS) hospital is the largest healthcare provider in the Southwestern part of Germany providing the highest standards of healthcare for > 50,000 inpatients and 200,000 individuals in the outpatient setting per year. The Department of Medicine II at UKS covers all areas of healthcare for patients with rare liver diseases in particular, genetic, autoimmune and cholestatic diseases. As the main and most specific area of expertise we avail of vast experience in analyzing genetic causes, triggers and modulators of rare hepatic diseases. These analyses are performed in the Molecular Genetic Laboratory, which is a part of Department of Medicine II and accredited according to DIN EN ISO 15189. We also closely collaborate with our partners within the Saar-Lor-Lux trans-regional programs that are aimed at connecting centers localized close to the borders between Germany, France and Luxembourg.
