Our center is a leading institution in the field of rare liver diseases, with a particular focus on autoimmune and cholestatic liver disorders, vascular liver diseases, metabolic liver condition, as well as other rare hepatic ailments. Our multidisciplinary team employs state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and treatment strategies to provide comprehensive, patientcentered care. We are actively involved in clinical and basic research and collaborate in both national and international projects to advance the understanding and management of these complex conditions, aiming to improve patient outcomes and quality of life.

Marqués de Valdecilla University Hospital (HUMV) is a public hospital located in Santander, Cantabria, Spain. As the primary referral hospital for the entire Cantabrian region, it serves a population of approximately 600,000 inhabitants. Additionally, as a tertiary care center, HUMV receives patients from neighboring communities for specialized treatments. HUMV is one of the largest hospital complexes in northern Spain with a capacity of near 1,000 beds. As a university hospital affiliated with the University of Cantabria, HUMV plays a significant role in the education and training of medical, nursing and allied health professionals. The hospital collaborates closely with the Valdecilla Research Institute (IDIVAL) to conduct high-quality biomedical research. HUMV has received several accreditations and recognitions for its high standards of care and patient safety. It has been accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI) and has received the “Best in Class” distinction from the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM). The hepatology unit, integrated within the Digestive Diseases department, has specialists focused on the specific management of different liver pathologies, among which autoimmune and cholestatic diseases, vascular diseases, metabolic diseases, and other rare liver disorders stand out. Additionally, the hospital boasts a liver transplant unit that serves as a reference center in the northern region of Spain.
