Particular rare liver disease expertise of the centre
Epatocentro Ticino has become the center of reference in the field of autoimmune liver diseases for Switzerland. PD Dr. Benedetta Terziroli Beretta-Piccoli, doctor of Epatocentro Ticino and researcher of the Epatocentro Foundation, in collaboration with the Research Institute in Biomedicine of Bellinzona (IRB, Professor Federica Sallusto, www.irb.ch) , initiated the Swiss AILD Cohorts, Swiss retrospective and prospective registries that study Autoimmune Hepatitis (AIH), Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) and Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) respectively. The center also has a Swiss Biobank Platform (SBP) certified biobank. Epatocentro Ticino has also an interest in rare genetic forms of cholestatic liver diseases and the genetics of NAFLD. It also collaborates with transalpine and international experts in the field enabling it to treat complex hepatic patients.

Centre information
The Epatocentro is the reference point in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland for the treatment of liver, biliary and pancreatic diseases. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Andreas Cerny, who started this activity in 1999, the centre now has a highly specialised medical team active throughout the Canton and collaborates with local and transalpine University centres enabling it to treat complex hepatic diseases directly in Ticino.
