Centre information

Rigshospitalet (RH), Copenhagen University Hospital, is the main tertiary hospital in Denmark and the national center for liver transplantation. Rigshospitalet is the main center for managing acute liver failure, metabolic liver diseases, severe decompensated liver cirrhosis, biliary atresia and liver cancers such as hepatoblastoma, cholangiocarcinoma and hepatocellular carcinoma.
RH has a highly specialized clinical team of hepatologists, pediatricians and surgeons within adult as well as pediatric liver care, also including intensive care units (both NICU, PICU and ICU). Furthermore, adult and pediatric hepatologists have a well-established collaboration with a broad network of paraclinical staff in radiology, pathology, genetics, immunology and metabolic experts with special expertise in hepatology.
For the adult hepatology a collaborative agreement has been formed with Hvidovre University Hospital which participates in the ERN RARE-LIVER work. Hvidovre University Hospital has highly specialized functions including autoimmune liver diseases in collaboration with Rigshospitalet and within the areas portal hypertension, cirrhosis-related complications with failure of standard treatment including TIPS and management of cirrhosis of unknown etiology.
