Particular rare liver disease expertise of the centre
Epatocentro Ticino, founded in 2013 by Prof. Andreas Cerny, has become a reference centre in Switzerland for autoimmune liver diseases. It hosts a Swiss Biobanking Platform (SBP)-certified Biobank for Autoimmune Liver Diseases, providing a key infrastructure for clinical and translational research. In 2017, Fondazione Epatocentro Ticino, in collaboration with the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB; Prof. Federica Sallusto, www.irb.ch), initiated the Swiss AILD Cohorts. These include both retrospective and prospective registries focusing on Autoimmune Hepatitis, Primary Biliary Cholangitis, and Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis.
Dr. Antonio Galante, Director of Epatocentro Ticino, contributes to the ongoing clinical and research activities of the institution and to the further development of these collaborative initiatives. In addition, Epatocentro Ticino is actively involved in the study of rare genetic cholestatic liver diseases, Wilson's Disease, Hereditary Hemochromatosis, and the genetics of Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Fatty Liver Disease, and collaborates with national and international experts, enabling the management of complex liver disease patients.
