Background/aims:
A proportion of patients with AIH will require orthotopic liver transplantation (OLTx). The major indication, like in many other chronic liver conditions leading to cirrhosis is decompensation of liver function with features of encephalopathy, variceal bleed or treatment resistant ascites. The literature data on Health Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) in the setting of chronic autoimmune or cholestatic liver diseases has not gained much clinical or scientific attention so far. There are just a couple of publications on posttransplant HRQoL in PBC or PSC with a lack of data regarding AIH. Subjects with AIH represent an interesting group of patients. They are more frequently transplanted at younger age, and they may be more likely to be affected by mood disturbance, depression, anxiety, cognitive dysfunction, chronic fatigue and decreased physical activity before transplantation. The aim of this pilot study is to assess HRQoL and adherence to medication in a group of patients transplanted for AIH. It is expected that more than 50 patients will be included and the study might be a basis for multicentre project.

AIH, post-transplant, >50 patients.
