Centre information

IRCCS San Gerardo dei Tintori is a leading public health center in Northern Italy, affiliated with the University of Milano-Bicocca. The Centre for Autoimmune Liver Diseases (AILD) at IRCCS San Gerardo is a specialized tertiary referral center dedicated to patient care, research, and education. It manages the largest cohort of AILD patients in Italy and has established Italian registries for primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), and autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), collecting biological samples.

The pediatric unit, jointly managed by a pediatrician and a hepatologist, provides a smooth transition of care, particularly for conditions such as autoimmune diseases and primary sclerosing cholangitis often linked to inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). The unit serves children from infancy to 18 years of age, offering access to both histological and genetic diagnostics when necessary. This collaboration guarantees high-level care, particularly for young patients with complex and challenging conditions.

The multidisciplinary team includes specialists in hepatology, radiology, endoscopy, hematology, intensive care, and liver surgery, ensuring comprehensive care for patients.
