Centre Information

The Department of Pediatric Hepatology and Comorbidities is scientific and clinical unit of the State institution «Ukrainian center of maternity and childhood of the National academy of medical sciences of Ukraine», is the only center in Ukraine to provide highly specialised inpatient and consultative care to children from all regions of Ukraine with liver diseases. The Department of Pediatric Hepatology was established in 2015. In 2023 a center for rare (orphan) liver diseases in children was established on the basis of the department. The work of the department is based on the principles of a multidisciplinary approach to the examination and treatment of patients.

Diagnosis and treatment of liver diseases in children is carried out in accordance with modern international clinical guidelines with the participation of a multidisciplinary team (pediatric gastroenterologist, ultrasound specialist, clinical pharmacologist, nutritionist, surgeon and pathologist).

Additional Information

The Department conducts research on the mechanisms of progression of autoimmune, metabolic liver diseases in children and sarcopenia.

The Department is also the cite for clinical trials of gastroenterological fields. The work of the department was positively evaluated by the FDA inspection in August 2017 for participation and quality of the international clinical trial.
