Centre information

Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin is one of Europe’s largest university hospitals, with over 23,000 qualified and highly committed employees. Over 900,000 treatments are performed each year in more than 100 clinics and institutes, and over 9,000 students are trained. The high standard of patient care is confirmed by independent national and international evaluations, in which Charité is ranked among the best every year. Regular patient satisfaction surveys show a very high level of satisfaction among patients treated at Charité, which is reflected by a recent survey of 2024, where patients rated medical treatment and nursing care with top grades.

The Departments of Adult and Paediatric Hepatology and Gastroenterology are centres of maximum care for the diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases of the liver and biliary tract, the pancreas and the gastrointestinal tract. We offer modern diagnostics including imaging modalities, high-end endoscopic interventions as well as individualized treatment protocols in close multidisciplinary collaboration with other specialist disciplines as (pediatric) surgery, radiology, pathology or nuclear medicine including in- and outpatient services, intensive care, nutritional medicine and liver transplantation.

As tertiary referral centres, our teams are engaged in continuous improvement of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This includes the implementation of clinical studies and basic research projects in our laboratories and the engagement in international and national research networks.
