Centre information

The Gastroenterology and Hepatology Unit in the Foundation IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico in Milan is specialized in management and treatment of adult hepatic diseases. Main areas of expertise in rare liver diseases include autoimmune diseases (primary biliary cholangitis, primary sclerosing cholangitis, autoimmune hepatitis) and vascular diseases (Budd-Chiari syndrome, porto-sinusoidal vascular disease, non-cirrhotic portal vein thrombosis). The Gastroenterology and Hepatology Unit serves as a referral Center at regional and national level due to the capability of multidisciplinary care, which involves also the Radiology, Endoscopy and Liver Transplant surgery Units, including emergency care (i.e. early TIPS). The Gastroenterology and Hepatology Unit is an authorized prescriber of specific medical treatments (i.e. obeticholic acid in PBC) and is actively involved in international clinical trials. It collaborates also in national and international registries for rare liver diseases, such as Italian and Global PBC study Groups, the VALDIG group for vascular liver diseases.
