Particular rare liver disease expertise of the centre
Our centre specializes in diseases of the liver and biliary tract offering a wide spectrum of treatments, from minimally invasive including advanced percutaneous image guided interventions, laparoscopic and robotic surgery to liver transplantation and extreme vascular surgery, including in situ and ex situ procedures. We are the largest world center in transplantation for Familial Amyloidotic polineuropathy and have a considerable experience in autimmune disease, Wilson´s disease, acute liver failure. Regarding malignant tumours, the center treats a very large number of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma in the setting of chirrosis, intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, perihilar cholangiocarcinoma and liver metastases from colorectal cancer with more than 2000 patients submitted to resection in the latter.

Centre information
The Reference Centers of liver, pancreas, adult kidney transplants and the hepatobiliopancreatic adult oncolgy Reference Center of the Central Lisbon University Hospital Center (CHULC) was officially recognized by the Ministry of Health through Order No. 3653/2016 of 11March 2016.
We participate in national and international assessment programmes. In December 2018 CHULC was awarded CHKS accreditation standards. In the 28 th august of 2018, after a national audit and certification procedure, Reference Centers of liver, pancreas, adult kidney tranplants and the hepatobiliopancreatic adult oncolgy Reference Center has received certification level of Good from the Certification Committee of the Sanitary Health Agency of Andalucía (ACSA), through the Department of Health Quality of the Directorate-General of Health (DGS).
Concomitantly we are a full member of the intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma international study group and ASPEN Group of neuroendocrine Tumors and we benchmark our surgical results and contribute our data to the portuguese registry of transplantation.
We are also part of an international board that has agreed on best practices and benchmarked the results of high-volume reference centers in pancreatic surgery called Whipple Benchmark. Through the Interventional Radiology Service, our Centre participates in the International Registries CIREL (DEBIRI for metastasis) and CILMAR (microwave ablation of liver lesions)
